As a young man I tended to sprain my right ankle playing racket ball. As a result I favored that side, and put more weight on my left leg. Later I injured the right knee, so much so I walked with a limp for many years and didn’t even know it. These kind of behaviors put information into my body and it’s systems, and everything adjusts and compensates. The body is amazing in how it protects itself moment-to-moment. These protection scenarios gone unchecked, become life patterns that can impact the body in less than ideal ways.

You can see that if a person is leaning a little forward, and more on the left foot, how problematic it could be for knees, hips, pelvis, lower back, upper back (between shoulder blades), neck, to name a few. Human beings want to be upright, yet we engage in activities that bring us forward.

Those of us who practice SI look at how each individual is standing in relation to their imaginary line. The work is to release old holding patterns, so that a more upright posture is possible. When this happens individuals usually feel better, and function more freely as a result. Many seemingly unrelated symptoms subside. The resulting improved posture relieves muscle tension and pain, especially in the neck, upper back, and low back.

We don’t focus on fixing symptoms, but creating balance for the whole system.

Ten Sessions can transform your body in a way nothing else can.
The Rolf Method of Structural Integration, is a form of bodywork founded by Dr. Ida P. Rolf, a biochemist who was influenced by yoga, osteopathy, and homepathy. The goal of Structural Integration is to improve health by bringing segments of the body (e.g. pelvis, legs) into proper alignment.

Structural Integration is based on the idea that fascia - the fibrous layers covering muscles - stiffens, shortens, and loses its elasticity after prolonged poor posture and mental and emotional stress. SI practitioners use their elbows, fingers, and knuckles to stretch and open fascia to correct the habitual patterns of misalignment in the head, shoulders, abdomen, pelvis, and legs. This helps open up breathing, improve digestion, balance the nervous system, and improve physical and emotional health.

The Rolf Method of Structural Integration is one of the most transformative manual therapy solutions ever conceived. The work actually can change the human structure and the way the structure functions.
