Much has been written about Dr. Rolf's Structural Integration. I've looked at websites like wikepeda, gsi, practitioners, and schools that teach SI. Ed Maupin has a nice piece on his website. My Friend and teacher Jeff Linn has posted Mr. Maupin's article here.
The benefits of SI include; improved posture, improved flexibility, increased breath, healthier spine, better joint function.
I first got rolfed at the suggestion of a yoga teacher in 1991. My body was stiff, and I was still suffering from an automobile accident that had happened years earlier. Dr. Rolf's Structural Integration and Iyengar Yoga have helped keep my body going, working out the stiffness, and a limp, I didn't know I had. I went on to study yoga, and learn to teach. All the while getting rolf sessions from different practitioners, depending on where I was living. The bodywork always makes me feel the way I feel after a great yoga practice. It allows me to go deeper, with greater ease, into yoga poses. My breath always feels freer and deeper as a result. The yoga helps to maintain the openness of the bodywork sessions. For me, the two go hand in hand. Yoga and body work. YogaBodywork.
In 2004 I enrolled in "The Guild for Structural Integration". My teachers for basic training were Neal Powers and Peter Melchoir. Both students of Dr. Rolf's way back when. I eventually moved to Boulder, where the school is located. Jeff Linn, another faculty member at GSI, befriended me and took me under his wing. I had some questions about the work, the 10-sessions, post-10 work, the advanced-series, and so on. Jeff mentored me. I went through the advanced training with Jeff and Tom Wing. Tom was another of Dr. Rolf's original students. I assisted Jeff with a basic training.
Now back in San Francisco, I continue to get rolfed, and go to yoga classes. I teach a few yoga classes, and see bodywork clients 4 days a week. My life as a student continues. My students and clients teach me daily.
